AHLのAll-Star Classicのスキルコンペを見ていたら、
ジャージのスポンサーのところに
Milwaukee Brewersのあのロゴ入れてるチームがあった。




Milwaukee Admiralsで、同じ都市付き合いかな？と思ったら、
オーナー様だった。

The Admirals ownership includes Milwaukee real estate investor Harris Turer, who is also part of the ownership group of the Brewers, along with Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash and pitcher Ben Sheets.

＜Wisconsinつながり＞
大学ホッケーを見ていたら、
University of Wisconsin (Wisconsin Badgers)の観客数が
Western Collegiate Hockey Association（WCHA）でトップだった。
NCAAのDivⅠは、たぶんWCHAがトップだろうから、大学で一番入ってるのかな？
平均15,000ぐらい
Coloradoの大学は、6,000ぐらい

下手なNHLのチームより観客が入ってるし、
今やってるヨーロッパのChampions Hockey League（6,000ぐらい）よりも
入ってる．．．

なにより、15,000人収容のアリーナがあるのが凄いなぁ。

So I ran the local ratings against these DMA market numbers, and came up with the following list of average local households tuning in. Among those 22 U.S. teams, the Caps are attracting the 11th-most households.

「More on coverage changes for the Stars」

SF Bay Area界隈ももう大分前からあれなのだけれど、
Dallasだけじゃなくて、
多くの地域でこんな感じの協定やら、
ロードは、APかフリーランスに頼むとか、
Washingtonの新聞が全然カバーしなくて、Capsのオーナーがお冠とか、
新聞のスポーツ記事のあり方が
物凄い変化中。
（本当の問題は、新聞の存在自体だけど）

んで、前からどうなるんだろうかな？と思ってたら
やっとメジャーどころで指摘しはじめた
（こっちの話はMLBだけど）

「Dramatic changes unveiled at The News, Free Press」

The changes, expected to be implemented in March, mean home delivery of The News and Free Press will end Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Delivery will continue on Thursdays and Fridays at both papers and Sundays at the Free Press. Both will still be available at the regular price at 20,000 stores and boxes throughout Michigan and through an electronic "e-edition" that allows readers to view replicas of the printed papers online.

Meanwhile, the Web sites of both newspapers, www.detnews.com and www.freep.com, will continue to offer expanded content.

水泳のオリンピックの予選も普通のアリーナでやっていたな
Olympic swimmers hit the pool at Qwest Center－Qwest Center Tickets

Most impressive in the preparations has been the installation of two 800,000-gallon swimming pools in the arena and convention center. Each pool was specifically built for this event and shipped to Nebraska from Italy. It took about a week to put each pool together -- the warm-up pool was constructed in the convention center in early May, with the competition pool put together in the main arena later that month.

Once completed, the Omaha Fire Department helped pump water into each pool, taking about 10 hours to fill each pool to its 800,000-gallon capacity. Heaters were used to warm each pool to approximately 80 degrees, making them ready for competition in early June for the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational, the final tune-up for athletes before the Olympic trials.

最近のYahoo! Sports その１

Yahoo! Sportsが急激に充実してるのだけれど、
とくにブログがいいのは、
去年、ブログの大将をつれてきたのが
大きいのかな？

Yahoo Sportsのブログは、
ほとんどジャーナリスティックなバックグランドを持った人達で
前職（どこかの紙メディアのエディターとかライターとか）を辞めて、
フルタイムで働いてるらしい。
お金はかけないとね。

新聞自体が以前からガンガン人材を削っていて、
どこに行ってるのかなと思うのだけど、
こういうところに流れるのかしら？

ESPNに対抗しようって言うのか？
ESPNもオンラインや雑誌作るときに、
バンバン他所から大物を引き抜いて（SI誌とか）いたのだけど、
Yahoo!Sports、
ひょっとして、今ESPN.comよりいいのかな？

リンク上にドレーンが無いから、直に溶かすのが難しくて
何回も何回もザンボニをかけてるらしい

大きなリンクだとドレーンももう少しあるしザンボニも1台じゃないから
もっと時間が短そう。
って、一年中やってるリンクにはあまり必要じゃないか。

地のコンクリートにペイントしてるのではなくって、
氷の層を2回ほど張って、その上に白い水でアイスの層を作って
その上にペイントしてる。
コンクリートにペイントは取るのが大変だからだそうな。
さらにこの方法だと解けたアイスをそのまま捨てても環境に問題ないらしい。

「AFL in danger of closing up shop due to financial woes」

The Arena Football League is facing financial pressures that could force the league to dissolve, according to a number of newspaper reports.
The Denver Post, citing two unnamed sources "with knowledge of the league's troubles," said the league could dissolve if it doesn't secure financing by Dec. 19.
"The business model for the league is broken," Michael Young, Colorado Crush executive vice president, told the Denver Post. "If the rug is pulled out from under us, it's pulled out from under us."

If some teams around the league are having financial trouble, the SaberCats would not be one of them. They are owned by the Fry family that started the electronics stores, and they're known around the league for the first-class travel on private jets and the gaudy championship rings. The SaberCats are also the league's current dynasty, with three titles since 2002 and a narrow loss in the championship game in July.

チームの記事を毎シーズン沢山載せてるのが凄いなと思っていたのだけど、
SaberCatsはAFLでは、超お金持ちチームだったのかぁ。

Ted's daughter Melinda Rogers, currently senior vice-president of strategy and development, and his son Edward Rogers, who runs the company's cable TV operations, have both been touted as possible successors to their father.
But Hirsh said both Rogers children need to be groomed before they'll be ready to take over their father's legacy.

パブリックなんだけど意外と一族経営？
以前に比べたら経営は悪くないけれど
ココのところのメディア業界の不況（？変動？）でどうなるのかならしい。
アメリカの主要メディアはほとんどがプロ・スポーツチームと手を切ってるのだけど、
Blue Jaysとかそろそろ手放すのかしら？

北米では、企業オーナーってのはなかなか続かないのかな。
WBCやる気満々だったのになぁ。
